Much of my work ends up behind firewalls or passwords (intranets and administrative tools). I have created small and large systems using anywhere between 1 to 10 servers. Sometimes it's simply tools to visualize data (graphs and charts). Sometimes there's a need to build custom daemons that spawn up to 100 child processes to run in tandem and communicate between servers in order to process terabytes of data. Sometimes it's a content management system. I have built all kinds of personalized tools and applications (simple and complex). These are somewhat difficult to demonstrate in a portfolio.
However, I do have many clients where my work is visible to the general public. Below is an abbreviated list of some of those clients:
http://www.BuyBooksAndMusic.com is a website that I designed and developed. It is a product search engine for books and music that searches the merchants databases live with each search so as to guarantee the most accurate and up-to-date information as possible (in other words no cached data).
This site is CSS, JavaScript, and AJAX heavy to help build a seamless and fun User Experience. The back-end is done in Perl and XML.
I have released this site to be maintained by the owner.
I worked on SnipAndSip.com by creating its first website (archived here). The main profile images were designed and created by the shop-owner Magda Jednorowicz (minor tweaks by myself). I also built a scheduling application hidden behind password protection which also keeps track of her finances. I have since helped Magda to be able to build and design her own website. She now manages her website herself.
http://www.air2water.com Hired me to build them a tool that will allow them to create, manage, and maintain new air2water websites. They also had me tune-up their main website to bring it up to speed with modern CSS and HTML standards, including browser compatibility.
http://www.TwoSkiesDesign.com is a website that I designed, took photos for, developed, and still maintain. It is a website for advertising and selling handmade jewellery designed by Adam McIntosh. I also manage (with scripts and manually) the GoogleBase subscription to keep the items up to date and nicely searchable on Google Products.
Front-end: Javascript, CSS.
Back-end: Perl, MySQL
Groupable was a company just trying to get off the ground. They had their website already designed and in Adobe Photoshop PSD format. I just needed to take those PSD files and make full web pages out of them (making sure they were fully browser compatible). They also needed these pages done in PHP and ready to be inserted into a PRADO system. Some of these pages also required some JavaScript work to be done as well (clicking buttons to expand view, clicking edit buttons to be able to edit content, etc.).
Below is a list of a few pages that I did for them.
Please note that my contract with Groupable is concluded and I cannot guarantee that their live site will always maintain my work.
So I have local copies of the files for preview.
Feel free to click on any of the buttons or links to test functionality.
Some of the links will be broken, as I did not want to link to anything active or live.
But the effects that are local to the page still work fine.
Please note that my contract with Groupable is concluded and I cannot guarantee that their live site will always maintain my work.
Schoenhofs Foreign Books is an international bookstore.
I was hired to help with the design and creation of their homepage.
They had decided exactly what they wanted, but didn't know how to do it.
It was particulary important for the S in the background to match the style, font and color of their logo.
Beloit-Janesville Symphony Orchestra (BJSO) is a non profit symphony orchestra located on the Wisconsin/Illinois border in Beloit, Wisconsin.
I was hired to create a whole new site for them.
They had a previous site, but it was almost entirely text, with very little disign or imagery.
It was important to keep the feeling of music and community flowing through the site, while still giving a lot of information.
Kluwer Law International (KLI) was a large international publishing company. They had a large technology firm doing their web site maintenance. When they needed a section or page updated they would send it to this technology firm and would not get updated for two weeks. So, when KLI felt like the changes they needed were a little more time-sensitive, they would call/email me, and I would have the changes made within 24 hours.
The City of Beloit Landmarks Commission hired me to redevelop their entire website. They provided me with all of the material and guidance of how they wanted the website to look, and I built it.
The City of Beloit Landmarks Commission's website was linked and connected to the main City of Beloit's website.
Because of this there were extra guidelines to follow in the creation of this website, so as to make sure that the new website fit physically and visually with the entire City of Beloit's website.
Due to stipulations in our contract I am not able to show examples of this work.
However I can tell you that the design was very much like a newspaper:
Titles, main photo, lots of text, and smaller photos stuck inside the text.
The entire City of Beloit website has been completely redone (including the City of Beloit Landmarks Commission) since the completion of this contract.
